A Certificate of Analysis is a laboratory report on one specific production batch, written after the material has been measured rather than assumed. Two parts of it answer different questions. Identity rests on mass-spectrometry data: the measured molecular weight is compared with the weight expected from the amino-acid sequence, and a match confirms the compound is the one named. Purity comes from chromatographic separation, normally expressed as the share of total peak area belonging to the main compound, with the smaller peaks accounting for whatever else the sample contains.
The batch number is what ties a report to a vial. It is the code printed on the label, marking the single production run that vial came from, so a certificate carrying any other batch number describes other material.
